A Day of Spiritual Connection at Jalpa’s Rose Farm with Paul & Neelam

What is a Despacho?

In the Andean traditions of Peru, a Despacho is a ceremonial offering to Mother Earth (Pachamama) and the Mountain Spirits (Apus). You could perhaps think of it as a focused, formal way to "despatch" or "ship" your prayers off to the powers that be.

1) Despacho is an offering of thanks to Mother Earth and an invocation for her blessings
2) It is a way to communicate with the forces of Nature with respect and reverence – Mother Earth, Mother Nature, Sun or Powers of Light and our Guides or Guardians of the Spirit World who help and provide for the community, family and the individual.

3) A Despacho expresses or manifests what we would like to attract into our lives or into the lives of our family or community members. We show our gratitude, love and respect for Mother Earth and the Great Nature Spirits of the mountains, lakes or rivers through symbolism, in the form of items representing the best of our work and our finest crops. By expressing Love and Gratitude from the bottom of our hearts we are manifesting our intentions to attract more of that which we are grateful for.

4) Sometimes these ceremonies are performed to communicate a specific need: a healing, assistance in a birth, maybe the birth of a new structure, the success of a season’s crop, a marriage, or an enterprise. Very often a Despacho is made for right relationship – among individuals, communities, families, or between man and Nature.

5) The Despacho takes the form of a very beautiful offering bundle. A sequence of items are placed on a flat surface, each representing the dedication of some aspect of life back to the wholeness. The process itself is an opportunity for reflection.

6) The Despacho ceremony, brings dedication of some aspect of life back to wholeness.

There are several types of Despachos:

'The Pachamama Despacho' is an offering of thanks to Mother Earth and an invocation for her blessings. This Despacho will be created at the farm.

'The Apu Despacho' is an offering to the mountain, which is the provider of the waters. When the mountain glaciers melt they provide the water that feeds the high mountain streams and lagoons. The mountain is the bringer of the weather as well.

'The Chaska Despacho' is an offering to our star, the sun. This Despacho is not prepared as often as the offerings to the Pachamama and to the Apu. Most of our business has to do with living in this world. Only when very big events are occurring, or whenever an offering is made for the benefit of a great number of people, the Chaska Despacho is prepared. In this case, the stars as well as Mother Earth and the Apu must offer their contribution. For example, in the case of earthquakes or large-scale environmental events which affect larger numbers of peoples, one wishes to bring together the power and the blessings of the earth, the mountain, and the star to bring them into right relationship. This is to help assure that the people go on the right path.

'The Ayni Despacho' – Ayni is the operating principle in Incan shamanism and refers to 'reciprocity' and divine exchange. The intent of the Ayni Despacho is to bring balance in our lives and relationship between our secular and sacred worlds.

'The Aya Despacho' is performed to aid the luminous body of the dead or dying to step outside of the physical body gracefully. It is said that the spirit of the dead lingers in the vicinity of the physical body for seven days. The medicine person knows when it is necessary to help the luminous body to sever its connection with the physical.

'The Cuti Despacho' – Cuti literally means 'turning back' or 'shielding off.' It is an offering for protection. This Despacho is typically created with the left hand only, and all motions of placing items in the Despacho are performed in a counter-clockwise (or unwinding) fashion. The right arm is in 'dreamtime' while the left arm performs the action.
Event flow

In the Andean traditions of Peru, a "Despacho" ceremony is a unique way of connecting with the energy and spirits of nature. By expressing love and gratitude we manifest our intentions to attract more of that which we are grateful for into our lives, the lives of our family and community members.

When you attend this workshop, you will have the opportunity to learn, create and offer your heart to Spirit, opening yourself to endless blessings and favors. We will provide the ingredients and supplies for creating the individual Despachos.

You will also have the opportunity to make a Medicine Wheel with Paul at the site. In Native American belief, the cardinal directions are linked to great Powers, or intelligent forces, whose energy (or Medicine) can be harnessed. The directions can be charted on a circular map, the Medicine Wheel, which can enable one to come into alignment with these spiritual powers. It can be used for finding direction in life and for aligning physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual realities.

The workshop will begin with creating sacred space, offering prayers to the seven directions and bathing in the smoke of sage.

First Half (10 am to 1 pm)

In the first half we shall focus on creating and learning how to make a Medicine Bundle (Despacho), a bundle of prayers offering gratitude & reverence to our Earth Mother, which then helps us in transporting our prayers to the spirits of Nature. 'The Pachamama Despacho' is an offering of thanks to Mother Earth and an invocation for her blessings and will be created at the farm

Lunch – 1 pm – 2.30 pm

Second Half (2.30 pm to 6.30 pm)
In the second half we shall learn to celebrate the beauty of the Earth, a day of blessings, healing of both the Earth & ourselves and a day of peace & honoring.
» Understand the beauty of the Earth and our relationship with Earth Mother
» Connect with and answer the needs of the Earth
» Ask and receive blessings from the Earth Mother
» You will have the opportunity to be a part of making of a Medicine Wheel with Paul Hinsberger honoring the site
» Prayer for peace  & honoring the Guardian and Power Animal of the site, the Cobra
» Journey & walk through a beautiful Labyrinth & Spiral at the farm
»  We shall end the day with a Drum Circle and Fire Ceremony where we shall ignite the Despacho for transporting our prayers to Spirit

Drumming is very healing to the Earth Mother and for our own souls and heart. Bring your own drums, rattles, singing bowls, rain sticks, thunder drums or any other musical instruments that you may have. We shall drum and offer our prayers to the Spirits of the Fire to carry our prayers to Spirit. Feeling grounded, interconnected and charged we shall rejoice!

This is a celebration of the Beauty of the Earth and rebuilding our primal connection with Gaia. The practice of mindfulness helps us to touch Mother Earth inside of the body and this practice can help heal people. The healing of people should go together with the healing of the Earth. This kind of enlightenment is very crucial to a collective awakening to heal ourselves & Mother Earth.

What is a Labyrinth?

A Labyrinth is a single path or unicursal tool for personal, psychological and spiritual transformation. Labyrinths are thought to enhance right brain activity.

The Labyrinth in this image shows that you enter through the mouth and then walk on the paths or circuits. The walls keep you on the path. The goal is in the centre of the Labyrinth. When you reach it, you have gone half the distance – you now need to turn around and walk back out.

We are all on the path... exactly where we need to be. The Labyrinth is a model of that path.
A Labyrinth is an ancient symbol that relates to wholeness. It combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. The Labyrinth represents a journey to our own centre and back again out into the world. Labyrinths have long been used as meditation and prayer tools.

A Labyrinth is an archetype with which we can have a direct experience. We can walk it. It is a metaphor for 'Life's journey'. It is a symbol that creates a sacred space and place and takes us out of our ego to "That Which Is Within."

Labyrinths and mazes have often been confused. When most people hear of a Labyrinth they think of a maze. A Labyrinth is not a maze. A maze is like a puzzle to be solved. It has twists, turns and blind alleys. It is a left brain task that requires logical, sequential, analytical activity to find the correct path into the maze and out.

A Labyrinth has only one path. It is unicursal. The way in is the way out. There are no blind alleys. The path leads you on a circuitous path to the centre and out again.
A Labyrinth is a right brain task. It involves intuition, creativity, and imagery. With a maze many choices must be made and an active mind is needed to solve the problem of finding the center. With a Labyrinth there is only one choice to be made. The choice is to enter or not. A more passive, receptive mindset is needed. The choice is whether or not to walk a spiritual path.

At its most basic level the Labyrinth is a metaphor for the journey to the centre of your deepest self and back out into the world with a broadened understanding of who you are.

What is a Medicine Wheel

Native American Medicine Wheel

What is the significance of the Medicine Wheel?

What is Medicine?
Native American "Medicine" is not the same as the modern medicine that we think of today. It is not a pill or a procedure or anything else that can be used to improve one's physical health. When Native Americans refer to "Medicine", they are referring to the vital power or force that is inherent in Nature itself, and to the personal power within oneself which can enable one to become more whole or complete.

Medicine = energy = power = knowledge

What is a Medicine Wheel? What does it mean? And what can it be used for? :
In Native American belief, the cardinal directions are linked to great Powers, or intelligent forces, whose energy (or Medicine) can be harnessed. The directions can be charted on a circular map, the Medicine Wheel, which can enable one to come into alignment with these spiritual powers and absorb something of them.
The Medicine Wheel is many things on many various levels and has many different meanings and uses. It is a circle which represents natural and personal powers in complete balance, and which shows that everything is interconnected and part of one cosmic whole. It is the circle of awareness of the individual self, and a circle of knowledge that gives one power over one's life. It is a shamanic map, or philosophical system, that can be used as a guide to help us find our way and ground us when we embark on inner journeys. We can use it to understand ourselves as well as life itself. It can be used for finding direction in life and for aligning physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual realities. One can use it to attune themselves to Earth influences and forces and to the natural energies that affect their lives.

A Medicine Wheel can be used:
  • as a sacred space
  • as an aid to meditation
  • as an altar
  • as a centering device for one's consciousness
  • as a protector
  • as a framework in which to honor the forces of Nature and the levels of being.

We provide quality employment at the farm, especially for women who are skilled at handling delicate flowers. Skilled workers in our state-of-the-art post-harvest center, which is equipped with a flower processing chain and cold storage. It is meticulously designed in view of the perishable nature of our produce. Vase-life testing of all our products is carried out.

The harvested flowers are transported in buckets filled with treated water to the cold storage for water uptake. They are pre-cooled at 6°C to 10°C.
The flowers are then taken to the grading and packing hall for de-leafing and quality grading. They are further sorted and bunched. The sorted bunches are stored for a minimum of 2 hours in the additional cold storage, which is set at 2°C-4°C. They are then packed in boxes and cooled by a forced air flow system that enables a homogeneous temperature spread and the even drying of moist leaves.

The boxes are now ready to be loaded & transported to Mumbai & other destinations. The "cold chain" is thus maintained at all stages to ensure optimum quality and maximum "vase life" for our valued customers.
