My favourite photo of the series!

The reasons are several: The vehicle portrayed is a car that was very popular and appreciated in Argentina, named Torino (Pampa's bull in Italian and a reference to the famous Cavallino from Ferrari), based on an American car. As for the photo itself, everything was given to make it come out just as it did: the condition of the car, the colours and colour balance, the background which is a work of art in itself, the lighting and the fact that there were no other cars parked nearby to disturb the view.

I discovered this car during the day on my way to a meeting in that neighborhood, which I did not know until then. I couldn't believe it. When I returned to the place at night I was very anxious and wondering if it would still be there, and it was, the precious object of my desire had been waiting for me! Another Torino, but in this case a four door sedan. I discovered it in an area where there are still many colonial style houses and old warehouses, and as we see, also this school, which gives the perfect framework for this colorful ensemble.

Small anecdote: that night I was coming back from a meeting with friends, and one of them took me home in his car. When I saw this particular car I asked him to stop and wait for me - of all the pictures in the series, this is the one where I was most relaxed! This is the last photo of this selection and the first I made this year, one morning in early January, at the 'Costanera Norte' Riverside Drive, where the Río de la Plata river looks like the sea.

I saw the imminent sunrise, a few days into the new year, as a sign of hope and new beginning, but of course we had no idea what was coming just three months later.

Interestingly from what my curator Jalpa says, I understand that this looks exactly like Marine Drive in Mumbai... Artist Gerardo Korn l CARS IN THE NIGHT XX - BUENOS AIRES l Volkswagen l Balvanera neighbourhood l 2019
This car from the early 80s may not impress too much, but the scenery certainly does. A classic and elegant facade, typical of Buenos Aires, which fortunately has been preserved and cared for. It just had rained, so the street was slightly wet. And the shadow of the tree gives a mysterious touch... The little Fiat 600, here affectionately called 'bolita', which means small sphere, in front of the strangely pruned tree, produced an image with a kitsch aesthetic that immediately caught the attention of my camera.
While immersing myself in an area of the city that was totally unknown to me and where I had never been, I found this melancholic looking Peugeot in front of a wall on which the branches of a tree were dramatically reflected, offering a unique spectacle!
Another photo taken in an area that was completely unknown to me, of a car that in its time was a luxury limousine, golden in colour, standing in front of an old colonial house of similar shade, as if car and scenery had agreed on it.

I wonder what stories it might tell and who might have travelled in it... Artist Gerardo Korn l CARS IN THE NIGHT XXIII - BUENOS AIRES l Rambler l Flores neighbourhood l 2019
The icing on the cake, when it comes to cars that are hardly ever seen on the streets: a Rambler limousine from the 60s.

In the first weeks of the project I wondered if I would ever come across one. More than a possibility, it was a dram. But this one was waiting for me.

Makes me think of the chances of finding it - just going one street in another direction, and the rendezvous with my camera would never have happened... At that point in the project I was looking almost desperately for a Chevrolet car, because I didn't have one in the series yet. But I didn't expect to find one in front of such a beautiful townhouse, typical of some areas of Buenos Aires and which I consider to be urban jewels.

Small detail: the canister on the car's roof. Putting an empty bottle or canister on the roof of a car means in Argentina that it's is for sale. Artist Gerardo Korn l CARS IN THE NIGHT II - BUENOS AIRES l Valiant l Villa Urquiza neighbourhood l 2019
There are almost no cars left on the streets of this model, a Valiant from the early 60's, so it was great to discover this one (which would look good in a Batman movie). It generates a certain nostalgia in me, since it was the first car my parents had and it's the first car I have any memory of.

It was parked on a busy street with lots of traffic, so it was impossible not to see some of it in the picture, hence the light trail... Artist Gerardo Korn l CARS IN THE NIGHT I - BUENOS AIRES l Chevrolet l Villa Urquiza neighbourhood l 2019
