AHILYODDHAR Ahilyoddhar | 20" x 14" THE GREAT INDIAN EPIC — THE RAMAYAN Written by the great poet Valmiki, it is one of the oldest & longest epics in the world. It depicts the journey of Prince Ram — who is the 7th avatar of Vishnu — through his life, following the path of dharma and his role of restoring order disrupted by Ravan, the demon king. The Olegraphs that follow depict characters and scenes from the Ramayan in great detail and bring alive the themes of duty, loyalty, courage, and devotion that the epic is known for. Created by Lord Brahma as the most beautiful woman, Ahalya was married to an older sage, Gautam. Tricked by Indra’s seduction, she was cursed by Gautam and turned into stone. She was liberated during the Ramayan when Ram visits Gautam’s hermitage with Lakshman & Sage Vishwamitra and accidentally brushes his foot against the stone. The oleograph depicts Ahalya ving obeisance to Ram for granting her redemption.
