HEIRLOOM ART-Unveiling the Legacy of Raja Ravi Varma

SATYANARAYAN Lord Satyanarayan is another form of Lord Vishnu. He is known to fulll the wishes of his devotees. To do this, his devotees often hold a sacred ritual in their homes that retells the stories of Satyanaryan. In the scene, you see the imagery of the ritual, the brahmin that makes sure the ritual is done properly, and Lord Satyanaryan himself. Satyanarayana I | 20" x 14" SESHA SAYEE Lord Vishnu is presented here with his consort Lakshmi. He reclines on the ve-headed snake Adisesha. The coiled Adisesha with its hoods connotes the awakened kundalini power. He rests on the Milky-ocean representing the undisturbed, sweet, calm state of Turiya, which is the highest state of consciousness. Lakshmi sits near the feet of Vishnu, which is the sphere of ignorance (avidya pada). The kaustubha is the jewel he wears on his chest, it is the red jacinth obtained from the Milky- ocean. Vaijayanti orvanamala is the necklace of Vishnu which is made of ve jewels stuck together. The club in his hand is called kaumodaki meaning 'He who delights the world'. The discus Sudarshana chakra symbolizes the mind for its swiftness. Brahma, the creator of the universe, emerges from the navel cord of Vishnu on a multi-petalled lotus.
