Attendant before the ensemble is Hanuman, Rama’s devout monkey-general, and the court priest Vashista. This scene, from the concluding section of the Ramayana epic, was a highly popular subject that was revisited by a number of publishing presses. Like many of the chromolithographic prints produced under Ravi Varma’s direction, this composition is modeled after one of the artist’s oil paintings.
