Sudama | 14" x 10" SUDAMA A devout Brahmin, Sudama was a boyhood friend & classmate of Krishna at the ashram of sage Sandhipani. After their education was completed, the two friends left the ashram and went their different ways in life, Because of his devotion to God and transcendental knowledge, he did not very much care for wealth. He was living in impecunious condition with his wife Suseela. Suseela beseeched her husband to visit Krishna, who was ruling Dwaraka, and ask for some riches so that they could live in comfort. So Sudama proceeded to Dwaraka on foot, with a small ft of chipped rice in a bundle of cloth. Upon seeing him, Krishna came out of the palace and welcomed him. He made him sit on the couch, washed his feet as a mark of respect, and offered fruits and drinks, Sudama at the delight of seeing his old friend, forgot to ask for any monetary help.
